About

An iconoclastic musician pushing boundaries and redefining contemporary fusion music.

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee

Tabla Maestro | Percussionist | Composer & Conductor | Grammy Jury Member | GiMA Awardee

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee is one of India's most brilliant and innovative percussionists, a Tabla Maestro whose rhythmic wizardry bridges the gap between ancient traditions and contemporary global sounds. As a GiMA (Global Indian Music Academy) Award winner and a distinguished member of the Grammy Awards Jury (Los Angeles Chapter), he has established himself as a premier cultural ambassador for Indian classical and contemporary music on the world stage.

Innovation: Rhythm Express

Pandit Mukherjee is the founder and driving force behind Rhythm Express, a path-breaking fusion ensemble that explores the vast spectrum of global sounds.

Through this project, he seamlessly blends Hindustani and Carnatic classical traditions, Afro-Latin and Indo-Occidental rhythms, and narrative soundscapes. His unique ability to simulate thunderstorms, the pitter-patter of raindrops, and the rhythmic gallop of horses using only his Tabla has captivated audiences of all ages globally.

Prodyut Mukherjee's Rhythm Express is also known for soulful Bollywood unplugged performances, blending traditional Indian rhythms with modern hits.

His 2016 album, "Rhythm Express - Moods," a collaboration with the legendary Padma Bhushan awardee Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, earned him the prestigious GiMA Award, solidifying his position as a pioneer of modern Indian fusion.

A Global Cultural Ambassador

Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee's artistry knows no borders. From performing at the Dover Lane Music Conference to captivating world leaders at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's high-profile summits, his music serves as a tool for cultural diplomacy.

In 2025, he was conferred the "Governor's National Award of Excellence" at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata, in recognition of his tireless efforts to promote Indian culture and his commitment to humanitarian causes.

Philosophy and Legacy

Beyond the stage, Pandit Mukherjee is a dedicated educator and environmentalist. He is a staunch believer in the Guru-Shishya Parampara, yet he advocates for a modern, compassionate approach to teaching. His visionary "Green Tabla" initiative, where he plants trees and names them after Ragas, reflects his deep connection to Mother Earth.

Whether he is judging the world's best music for the Grammys or performing an improvised solo that "never repeats itself," Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee remains a rhythmic poet, constantly pushing the boundaries of what the Tabla can express.

Artist Statement

Through global performances, I represent the rich tapestry of Indian culture while building dialogue, unity, and harmony among nations. Music helps bridge distance, language, and identity, creating shared understanding across diverse communities.

“Music is the language of the soul. My journey is not just about the beats; it is about finding the rhythm that connects every human heart.”

— Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee

“My concerts are never the same twice. Even if a melody returns, the rhythm around it is reborn. For me, music is not a script to be followed, but a conversation to be shared—with the stage, with nature, and with the audience.”

— Pandit Prodyut Mukherjee
